Year of the Horse

Craftsmanship | February 2026

The horse, strong and energetic, had moved swiftly throughout the race, carrying itself with confidence and rhythm. Yet as it neared the finish, it was momentarily startled, allowing the snake to move ahead.

Regaining its composure, the horse crossed soon after, taking seventh place, its journey reflecting both strength and the unpredictability of movement within the cycle.

As the zodiac cycle moves forward, there are moments where energy becomes more outward, where movement is no longer contained or implied, but expressed with a sense of openness, rhythm and continuity that carries both strength and grace.

The Year of the Horse embodies this transition, representing freedom, endurance and a connection to movement that feels both instinctive and purposeful. It is an animal defined not only by its physical presence, but by the way it moves through space, with a natural fluidity that reflects both power and balance, and a quiet understanding of direction.

This sense of motion and composure is reflected in the Zodiac Cufflink Collection, designed and handcrafted by Patrick Mavros Jnr in our studio in Harare, Zimbabwe. As the collection continues to evolve, each piece remains grounded in the same principles of craftsmanship, while allowing the individual nature of the animal to shape its form with clarity and restraint.

The Year of the Horse cufflinks are composed with a focus on line and proportion, capturing the animal in a poised yet dynamic state, where movement is suggested through the flow of the form rather than through overt detail. The contours are carefully considered, allowing the piece to hold a sense of rhythm that feels continuous, as though the motion extends beyond the object itself.

There is a balance within the design between strength and lightness, where the structure of the form is supported by a refinement that prevents it from becoming heavy or static. Detail is introduced with intention, ensuring that the character of the horse is present, yet never overstated, allowing the piece to remain both expressive and composed.

In the natural world, the horse moves with a sense of unity between power and grace, its motion defined by a rhythm that is both controlled and free. It carries a long association with journey, with partnership, and with the idea of moving forward with purpose, guided by instinct and shaped by experience.

This understanding informs the making of the piece, where sterling silver is worked through a process that requires both precision and patience, allowing the form to emerge gradually through the hand of the maker. Each cufflink carries with it the subtle variations that define true craftsmanship, ensuring that the final piece feels both resolved and individual.

To wear the Year of the Horse is to carry a symbol of movement and continuity, reflecting a way of being that is guided by purpose, shaped by experience, and grounded in a quiet sense of confidence.
